Makalu Base Camp Trek is perfect for trekkers who are looking for wilderness and remote holiday in Himalaya kingdom of Nepal. It falls in the eastern part of Nepal in Makalu Barun National Park. The park was established in 1992 which covers area of 1500 sq. km. The park lists Mt Makalu which is the fifth highest mountain in the world towering at 8485 and includes Chamlang Peak (7,319 m), Baruntse Peak (7,129 m) and Mera Peak (6654m). Makalu trekking is legally restricted area so hunting, trapping and threatening of wild animals is strictly prohibited. The Makalu Barun is both National and conservation area which is habitat for a wide diversity of faunal species. There are 315 species of butterflies, 43 species of reptile, 16 species of amphibians, 78 species of fish. It has recorded 440 bird species, 16 rare or protected bird species, and 88 species of mammals.  Makalu Base Camp Trek offers various biodiversity of flora and fauna besides these Barun Valley, views of landscapes, rivers, lakes, glaciers and mountains are great nature trip gift impose picturesque in the frame of mind.

Trekking route elevation starts from 900m to Makalu Base Camp at 4870m. Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar by domestic flight then drive to Chichira from where trekking begins day to day walking 5-6 hours trails on passing through villages of ethnic Gurung, Tamang, and high level of villages are settlement of Sherpa.  While on trekking, it exposes mix culture, society and religion. This trekking route is considered as best exploring for wilderness, biodiversity of rhododendron, dwarf rhododendron, alpine, junipers and aromatic plants. To do Makalu trek needs a good shape in physic because trails are very often undulating and it is a hard type of trekking region. Walking on ridges, forests, rivers, scree and glaciers. Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

Day 03 Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar then drive to Chichira (955m) 3-4hrs

We fly by domestic plane about 45 minutes to Tumlingtar where our crew members will join with us for the trek. After a normal introduction with the crew members, then drive to Chichira, is our first day of destination is a small village of Gurung. There are some tea shops run by local people.

Day 04 Chichira to Num (1560m) (7hrs)

Today is the first day of trekking proceeds following on ridge past villages of Baiske and Kuwapani and Mure then a gentle walking down to Num. we follow the path passing through charming villages, forests and some small streams reaches Num village which is situated in nice viewpoint.

Day 05 Num to Seduwa (1535m)(5-6hrs)

Heading north direction then follow the ridge trail to descend steeply to Barun River(620m) on which a suspension bridge is crossed. We climb uphill courses farm terraces with all grains rice, wheat, maize, barley, and vegetables. By exhausting eventually at Seduwa. It is a nice place for camping and some basic tea houses are found there. Makalu National Park permit and Trekking permits are registered in Seduwa.

Day 06 Seduwa to Tashigaon(2085m)(4-5hrs)

The trail to Tashigaoin offers less up and down crossing streams and bridges. Starting the path with gentle walk arrives at Manigaon from here again gradual walk to Kasuwa Khola. Above the Khola, a gentle walk past mani walls, opened meadows and forest to Tashigaon which is a big village with many lodges. Houses are built with stone and wood.

Day 07 Tashigaon to Khongma Danda (3500m) (5-6hrs)

Day 07 is a tough day until now. As we have to walk on a steep trail in higher elevation. Follow ascent trail through forests to a stream and then onto a ridge. From this stage, the level of the trail gets even steeper and passes a grazing land to follows a series of paved stone stairs ascending to the top ridge. Passing small lakes regular climb to the top of the ridge. From here the path splits we take short way down to Khongma Danda.

Day 08 Acclimatization day

Till today is four-day trekking continue so it is ideal to have a rest at 3500m which helps further high trek from altitude problem and also the body needs altitude adoption. On this day, a few hundred meters hiking and descending

Day 09 Khongma Danda to Dobate (3655m)(6-7hrs)

Climbing to up and down the trail past three passes among them first Ghungru La (4050m) the second Shipton La (4216m) and Keke La (4150m). This day offers close views of Peak 6 (6739m) Peak 7 (6105m) and huge Chamlang Peak (7319m). Kalo Pokhar (Black Lake) and forest of rhododendron make the trek enjoyable.

Day 10 Dobate to Yangle kharka (3600m)(4-5hrs)

From Dobate the trail drops down to the Barun River between this sections walking on scree- sliding. As we arrive at the river then heading up following the preferable trail to Yangle Kharka.

Day 11 Yangle Kharka to Langmale Kharka(4400m)(4hrs)

Today’s destination is to Langmale Kharka to reach there a series of herds huts are passing through meadows. Heading towards Langmale towering rocks, landscape and shape of following rivers attract the mind while on walking. The first stage of the herd is Nghe Khara (3760m) and the second and third Riphuk Kharka (3945), Jhak Kharka (4200m) and finally at Langmale Kharka.

Day 12 Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp (4870m)(max. 5hrs)

Beyond Langmale Kharka the trail to Makalu Base Camp climbs steeply on a barren zone to Shershong (4655m) is pasture valley. From this section flat scree and glaciers path to the base camp. We are very happy to be here at the destination.

Day 13 Explore Makalu Base Camp

Maklau Base Camp has many day trips to explore glaciers, lakes and beyond is Hillar and French sit Base camp. A long descending glacier opposite up there stands great view of Everest, Lhotse, and Baruntse. The south face of Mt.Maklu direct facing down to the base camp.

Day 14 Makalu Base Camp to Yangle Kharka (6-7hrs)

Today we reverse down to the Barun Valley and our destination is to Yangrle Kharka

Day 15 Yangle Kharka to Dobate( 6-7hrs)

We retrace trail down Dobate max walking 6-7 hours. The views remind us of the previous walking moment.

Day 16 Dobate to Khongma Danda(5-6hrs)

The trail forms ascending and descending again follow up to Keke La and Shipton La trail then descends to Khongma Danda.

Day 17 Khongma Danda to Tashigaon( 4-5hrs)

Today’s walking is a short day but descending steeply.

Day 18 Tashigaon to Seduwa (4-5hrs)

Direct continue to retrace the trail to Seduwa where we register exit from the National park and area permit

Day 19 Seduwa to Num(6-7hrs)

The undulating trail through forests, villages and terraced field takes about 6 hours to reach Num.

Day 20 Num to Tumlingtar (6-7hrs)

All the way and longtime plane and talking about Makalu Base Camp trek is going to finish today. The last day of the trekking destination is at Tulingtar via Chichira the first day of our trekking camp. From Chichira to Tumlingtar drive by jeep.

Day 21 Fly from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu and then transfer to hotel

Day 22 Free day in Kathmandu

Day 23 Departure from Kathmandu
