Rara Lake Trek is situated in the far west northern parts of Nepal in Rara National Park which was established in 1976 and the park covers an area of 106 sq. km is the smallest national park of Nepal but the most beautiful lake. 375 Km away from Kathmandu.

The main trekking attraction of this National Park is the presence of Rara Lake is situated at an altitude of 2980m is the largest lake in Nepal. The aim of this park preserves the beauty of the lake and protect it from sedimentation and adverse human activities and also flora and fauna of two distract of Jumla and Mugu. The trail is covered by a beautiful forest of blue pine, black juniper, oak, cedar, and west Himalayan spruce. The Park also provides habitat for a wide range of wild animals black bear, leopard, Himalayan Thar, and wild boar. Very rare wild animal musk deer are also found in some parts of the Park.

In the Rara lake special three different fish snow trout, Rar snow trout and one endemic frog are found. Local Gallinaceous birds and migrant waterfowl come under the interest of the visitors. The great crested grebe, black-necked grebe, red-crested pochard are some species of birds are seen and some other common birds like Snowcock, Chukar partridge, Impeyuan pheasant, Kalij pheasant, and blood pheasant are appearing during the trek.

Off the beaten trail which let you an experience of culture and tradition of remote people of Nepal and quite different than other regions of Nepal. In the background, we can view the magnificent snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. Rara lake is surrounded by Rara National Park with pine, spruce, and juniper forest. The view of snow-capped Himalayan peaks enhances the attraction of trekkers.

To access Rara Lake Trek fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj to Jumla ( 2370m). Nepalgunj is a plain Terai area. The area of Rara Lake trek rewards with culture and scenery quite different from that found elsewhere in Nepal and eventually leads to the Rara National Park. Gurchi Mara Pass at 3710m is the highest elevation on the way to the Rara Lake and we walk on some ridges at around 3000m high. The trail to Rara Lake includes up and walking down through forests and isolated villages, and leads to a high. This trek provides an entire wilderness with the full beauty of the nature trail. Rara Lake, is surrounded by Rara National Park, has unique flora and faunal importance with rare and vulnerable species.

Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport transfer to your hotel a short briefing will follow concerning the necessary information about your trekking after you may spend free time, visiting sanctuaries or rest.

Day 02 Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley

On this day you are busy to visit ancient local traditions and places. In Kathmandu, there are many Buddhist and Hindu temples like Boudhnath Stupa, Swayambhu, and Durbarsqaur.

Day 03 Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj overnight at hotel

Day 04 Fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla (2370m)(35 minutes)

Day 05 Jumla to Danphe Lagna(3300m)(max. 6hrs)

From Jumla town the route we follow on the right side wide and easy walk for a short time and then climbs through forest and meadows. Just before reaching Danphe Lagna La a steep trail past meadows and from the pass where views of Sisne Himal, Dudu Kundari Himal , Patrasi Himal (6860m) Jangdula Himal (5775m) are clearly seen from here the trail descends into the rhodedenron forest to Danphe Lagna.

Day 06 Danphe Lagna to Chautha (2770m)(max. 6hrs)

The descending trail leads to Tharamara and Hiran Duski continue to Sinja Khola where a suspension bridge is crossed. The trail pushes up meandering fields drops and rises to rocky cliffs. A stream is past to reach today’s camp at Chautha village.

Day 07 Chautha to Dhotu (2380m)(5-6hrs)

Today’s trail meets the Rara National Park at Bhubhule (3130m) where we present our permit beyond the checkpoint gently climbing at Gurchi Lagna pass (3450m) now drop down to cross Jhyari Khola to the settlement of Dhotu.

Day 08 Dhotu to Rara Lake (2980m)(max. 4hrs)

Day 08 is interesting and our destination trek following up the trail passing through the beautiful green forest of cedar to a flat meadow point view of great Rara Lake. A short descend to the lake. The national park is not allowed to freely camp everywhere in the area of Lake only northern side of the lake is camping area.

Day 09 Exploring Rara Lake

So far Rara lake is known as the largest and magnificent lake in Nepal situated at 2980m and it occupies 13 km around the area of it is 170 meters deep in to. Exploring day goes well with taking pictures and viewing the lake from a different angle with a different view. There are other side trips but walking around the lake is more ideal to observe flowers, birds, fish, mammals, animals, and plants. It is happy to be here to witness “queen of the lake in Nepal).

Day 10 Rara Lake to Gorosingha (3200m)(max. 5hrs)

The trail to Gorosingha descends to the west direction passing many bridges, streams, trails and forest of pine, spruce and rhododendron then finally at Gorosingha.has excellent campsite with a peaceful location.

Day 11 Gorosingha to Sinja (2440m)(4-5hrs)

We follow down the Ghatta Khola and Sinja Khola from here heading up to a ridge then to Okarpata (3070m) then rocky trail reaches Sinja was the capital of Malla dynasty 12th to the 14th century for the western region.

Day 12 Sinja to Jaljala Chour (3270m)(5-6hrs)

Day 10 trek is almost close to finish the trek. The path passes Sinja Khola and Dhobi Khola on a bridge. After passing them to through forest and villages the trail reaches Jaljala Chour is a flat meadow for cows and horses grazing place.

Day 13 Jaljala Chaur to Jumla (2370m)(max. 4hrs)

Today is the last day of Rara Lake trekking and also less walking hours. Start climbing into the forest to a ridge and then descend to a village and the last ridge meets to Chere(3010m) from here the path descends to Sisnamul is a place where Rara Lake Trek completes a circle trek and then to Jumla bazar.

Day 14 Jumla to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu

Day 15 Free day in Kathmandu

Day 16 Departure from Kathmandu
